Hi Everyone!

I want to share this beautiful layout created by our Guest Designer, Eva Montes.  She has created some of the most amazing projects using our February 2012 Hip Kit, and this is no exception.  Eva’s projects have so many different layers and such wonderful dimension.  They are like candy for the eyes.  :)  You keep looking deeper and deeper into her layouts because there are so many little details and you don’t want to miss anything.  Fabulous layout, Eva!

Tutorial Tuesday… A Great Way to Use Your Scraps…

Hi Everyone!

It is Kimberly, and it is Tutorial Tuesday (actually Wednesday due to technical difficulties).  I have a great trick to help you use some of your patterned paper scraps and turn them into unique embellishments for your projects.  So, pull out your scraps and follow along!

I am using some patterned paper scraps that I have leftover from our February 2012 Hip Kit. IMG_0470

In addition to your scraps, you will also need a paper trimmer, liquid glue (I like the Tombow Aqua Glue), scissors, white cardstock (actually any color will do), and a few different punches. I am using a couple of different sized circle punches and the Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch that was included in our March 2012 Embellishment Add-On Kit.

I am using 6 different double sided pattern papers. They should all be at least 6” long by 2” wide.

Using your paper trimmer, cut two or three 1/4” strips out of each paper. WIth my stripe, I cut across the stripe so that you can see more of the pattern. I rarely cut with the stripe on any of my projects.

IMG_0481
Add a very thin bead of liquid glue along the entire strip of paper. Then place it on your solid cardstock.

IMG_0491
Repeat this process until you have 7 or 8 strips glued down. Then trim off the excess white cardstock so that you will be able to punch from both sides.

Punch out several butterflies. Using your punch upside down allows you to view the placement of your paper. This way you can see exactly how the pattern will appear on your punched shape and you can adjust the paper to choose which patterns you want on your shape.

Note:  you can also use dies to cut out your shapes.  A Cricut may not work very well as the paper might be too thick.

Here is the end result.  You can use these just as they are to add a finishing touch to your project, or you can spice them up a bit to give them a little more flair.

I took a few butterflies and tied a little baker’s twine to create their bodies and antennas.  This gives them just a little bit more texture and dimension.  (excuse my terribly dry hands – looks like it is time for a manicure) :)

Here is a card that I embellished using a couple of the butterflies I made.  Cute, eh?  I hope this little trick has inspired you to create some fabulous embellishments of your own with the scraps you have on hand.

See you next Tuesday!!!  Happy crafting…

February 2012 Hip Kit… A Fabulous Disney Layout by Eva Montes…

Hi Everyone!

I have a fabulous Disney layout to share with you that was created by Eva Montes using our February 2012 Hip Kit.  This layout is proof that to create a wonderful Disney page you don’t need “Disney themed” products.  The embellishments that Eva used on her project fit perfectly with her project, and her photos remained the focal point on her page.  Awesome work Eva!  You have inspired me to get to work on my many Disney photos.  Thanks for the wonderful idea!!!   :D

Notice how she used the Echo Park This & That "ticket sticker" along with the My Mind’s Eye Miss Caroline “admit one” decorative brad on her page. The yellow mist and splatters gave a great splash of color. I also love how her title wrapped around punched circles – perfect for a teacup theme.

Hi Everyone…

I want to share another wonderful layout created by our February Guest Designer, Eva Montes.  Eva does a great job of taking photo that capture a feeling, like these of photos of plants in her garden.  I love how she incorporated the pockets and other items in our February 2012 Hip Kit into her layout.  All of the tiny details on her page add such nice texture and interest.  Notice the scalloped borders and the layered mats.  Each one is unique and adds something special to her page.  Beautiful layout Eva!!!

Here are another couple of great cards by Eva Montes.  I love how the products in our February 2012 Hip Kit are versatile enough to create projects for both girls and boys.  Beautiful work Eva!

Love the addition of hand cut butterflies on this card.  The Miss Caroline Butterfly Paper in our February Hip Kit was one of my favorites!  The little vellum envelope would be perfect for including a special note or a gift card.

Welcome Eva Montes, our March Guest Designer!!!

Many of you may remember Eva from our Hip Kit Club 2010 Design Team. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of seeing her work, I will tell you that she is amazingly talented and she creates the most awesome cards and layouts.  I am thrilled that she has found time to share her creativity with us this month.

Let me introduce you…

Hi! My name is Eva Montes. I live in sunny Southern California with my husband of 15 years and our three boys ages 15, 12 and 5yrs old. I started scrapbooking about five or six years ago. I lost track of the exact time. Lol! Like most of you I started this hobby to document everyday moments. Then it quickly tuned into an obsession. I love to create pages for my boys and learn new techniques. Some of my favorite things are book paper, sheet music, office tags and twine.  Aleene's Tacky Glue - I love it. I use it on every layout. I also love to add dimension to my pages. When I am not scrapping I am usually at soccer practices with my boys. Spending time with my family. Just being a mom. Thank you Kimberly for this fabulous opportunity. I am very excited and honored to join you this month.
