| Hi Everyone! Today I have a layout that I created using a Christmas photo along with our fabulous January Hip Kit. I know that many of you might not think that the products in our January kit would be a good fit for Christmas photos… but it is!!! It is not so much about patterns and icons – as it is about colors and a feel. |
| I used a ruler and my craft knife to cut the aqua chevrons out of the Crate Paper Fourteen Sparks paper. Then I machine stitched them to my background paper. I cut them down a bit… so that they didn’t take over my page. I really like the subtle texture they give to the foundation of my layout.
The gold polka dot vellum from our January Embellishment Add-On Kit is one of my favorite products from this month’s collection. I love the way it looks when you layer if over other papers, and I love the shine that the metallic polka dots have without having a sparkle to them. The gold worked well with my Christmas photo – because it gave my page a festive feel.
The aqua & white washi tape at the very top and bottom of my layout was from my stash. I needed something with a strong repetitive pattern to give weight to the top of my page. Having a handful of different colors and patterns of washi tape in your stash – comes in really handy. I hope my page has inspired you to try to scrap a holiday themed photo using “non-holiday” related products in one of your Hip Kits. If you do… you can share your layout with us on by posting in on our Facebook page. We would love to see what you create!!! We will have more awesome projects created with our January Hip Kit to share with you this weekend… so make sure to check back. Have a scrappy day! xo – Kimberly - |
| Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent yesterday scrapbooking… which was a nice treat for me. Today, I have a fun layout to share with you that I created with our fabulous January 2013 Hip Kit. I had some photos of my two youngest daughters and Mackenzie’s best friend, Megan at a Sounder’s soccer game. I think this layout is a perfect example that you don’t need soccer themed products to work with soccer photos to make an amazing page. Check it out… (the photos of my layout were taken with my phone… so they aren’t quite as clear as they would be had I have taken them with my SLR – but this was a lot quicker) haha… |
| Adding vellum to your projects is a really popular trend right now. I love the Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic gold polka dot vellum that was included in our January Embellishment Add-On Kit. It adds a little pattern, and some shine and also gives a more subdued foundation for my photos. It was super fun to work with. Machine stitching is always a great way to add detail to your projects. I hand cut a few hearts from the Fourteen – Be Mine paper. Then I layered two of them and machine stitched down the middle. I adhered the bottom heart to the paper and folded the top heart up a bit. This is an inexpensive way to create a dimensional embellishment that will give texture to your layout. I scraped the edge of the striped border with the blade of my scissors to give it a rough edge. Then I layered it over a strip of aqua paper and machine stitched to my layout. Then I lifted the edges up a bit to give some extra dimension and weight to the left side of my page.
I like the brightness that a white cardstock background gives my layouts. However, sometimes it is a bit to stark… so this time I lightly misted the upper right and lower left corners with Dewy Mister Huey Mist. Then I create some splatters to give some more distinct drops. All in all I was really happy with the way it all came together. Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope my page has inspired you to create a page or two of your own with one of your Hip Kits. Tomorrow I will have another project to share with you… so make sure to check back. Have a scrappy day!!! xo – Kimberly - |
Happy Tuesday!!! I know you have all been patiently waiting for our January Hip Kit DT projects. :D Well, today I have 2 sweet valentine cards to share with you that I made with our January Kit. I think that you will find that all of the wonderful goodies in this package – will make creating amazing projects a piece of cake.

I love the Life Stencil Cards by Fancy Pants. Each card is like getting two embellishments in one. You get the word itself, and a stencil card. So, you can easily make two projects with that one embellishment. Everyone received 3 assorted cards in their January Hip Kits. One of my cards said “Love”, and I just knew I had to use the stencil part to make a card. :D The stencil card itself was a little too large for my card, so I cut it down a bit. I adhered a strip of the Dear Lizzy Foxy Fairview paper to the back of the card, and machine stitched around the perimeter. This gave it a nice little detail. I added a heart doily from my stash. I think the doily added both texture and a dainty detail to my card. Doilies are great to have on hand. Next time you are at out, pick up a couple packages of doilies in a few different sizes. Later on this month I will do a little tutorial showing some different ways to incorporate doilies into your projects. You all know how much I LOVE woodgrain papers & embellishments! The Echo Park Kraft Wood paper gave my card a neutral background with a nice subtle pattern. This worked well because the focal part of my card was so bright. The Today’s Story – Hello paper has twelve 3”x4” cut apart journaling blocks and cards with little phrases. I thought the “Love” block would make a really cute card. The bright color really caught my eye, but other than the love script, it was kind of plain.
I added some corrugated Thickers. This gave my card texture and dimension. The little “so much” sticker from the 5th & Frolic Accent & Phrase Stickers finished the sentiment. I matted the pink card on aqua cardstock – which kept the aqua Thickers from looking out of place. Plus, an extra layer is always appealing. I added some machine stitching to the “you” and “so much” stickers. I still felt like it needed something else. The Studio Calico Darling Dear Vellum Heart & Arrow Stickers were the perfect finishing touch. I really like the “pop” of black.
I hope my cards have inspired you to create some valentines for your loved ones. Thanks so much for stopping by today. We will have another collection of amazing projects to share with you tomorrow – so don’t forget to come back. xo – Kimberly - |
