Boy, this is like saying goodbye to family members.  After 4.5+ years on our Hip Kit Club Design Team, Melanie Jarocki & Kristin Kingrey are stepping down from our team and pursuing other creative endeavors. They have both been a huge support for me ever since I opened Hip 2-b Square over 6 years ago. In the fall of 2007 when I started the Hip Kit Club – they were my very first DT members. Over the years they have both created more fabulous projects with my Hip Kits than I could possibly count.  Here are some of my favorite projects from 2012…

Happy Friday!!!
Kimberly here with you today, and I have a great fall layout and a simple thank you card to share with you.  Both of these projects were created by Kristin Kingrey using our super fun October Hip Kit.  I loved the colors in this kit – the papers and embellishments really allowed you to make the leap from Halloween projects to fall & Thanksgiving layouts and cards.  Kristin’s layout is a perfect example of how versatile our October collection is.  :D

Have  you ever looked at the leftovers from one of your kits, and thought that you have used every little usable piece?  Well… you should look again, because you would be amazed and how many fabulous little cards that you can make with a few scraps and a handful of miscellaneous embellishments and stickers.  Kristin did just that when she created this card.  Scraps of 2 different patterned papers, one of which she cut and folded into a pennant banner, a strip of washi tape, a label sticker, a piece of cardstock and a stamp and viola, she had a darling handmade card.

I hope you will try to make a few cards with each of your Hip Kits.  You will be amazed at how many projects you can get out of one kit.  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Make sure to come back again tomorrow to see another collection of projects created with our October Hip Kit.

October 2012 Hip Kit… A great Halloween layout by Kristin Kingrey…

Hi Everyone!

Kristin here today with a fun Halloween Layout that I made using our October Hip Kit. I just love all of the colors and Halloween embellishments in this kit. I will tell you that Halloween is my all time favorite holiday!  I go all out with Halloween decorations in my yard. Because of my obsession, I have passed my enthusiasm for Halloween onto my kids. They are not afraid of anything. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not.  This year I walked outside one afternoon and I found my 4 year old daughter hugging and kissing on the skeletons. Of course, being the scrapping momma I am, I had to get pictures.

Silly Ghoul

I absolutely love the October Afternoon Witch Hazel alphabet stickers.  When I put the orange stickers directly onto the teal polka dot paper there just wasn’t enough contrast.  So, I matted each letter onto black cardstock, and fussy cut around them to create my title.  This made my title really “POP”.Silly Ghoul_2

I layered a black circle that I punched out of cardstock underneath the chipboard  gave it a little shadow.  I also splatted some of the October Afternoon Midnight Sprinkler Mist (from our October Embellishment Add-On Kit) on the white background paper for a little extra detail.

The rhinestones on the eyes of the skeleton were from our July Hip Kit. I felt since this was a girly page, the skeleton needed some bling.Silly Ghoul_3

Thanks for stopping by today. We sure do love having you come take a look at what we have created with the Hip Kits. I hope you have found some inspiration to get out your Halloween photos and get scrapping.  Come visit us again tomorrow to see our next great project that we have made using our fabulous October Hip Kit!  xo –Kristin-

Hi Everyone!

It is Kristin here with you again today and I have a Halloween layout to share with you that I made using our October Hip Kit.  I love the great colors and products in this kit.  The Witch Hazel collection color palette has a combination of orange, aqua, charcoal grey and a little bit of black for contrast – which are perfect for those Halloween photos.

I splattered the October Afternoon Midnight Sprinker Mist on my background paper to add a little extra detail.  I love how a few ink splotches change the look of a layout.  I also inked the edges of the stickers, die cuts and patterned paper to make the layers show up a bit more.

I love the combination of alphabet that I used to create my title!!!  The Witch Hazel Alphabet and the Fresh Squeezed Glittered Thickers (from our Embellishment Add-On Kit) worked perfectly together.

The Chip n’ Stick accents also from our Embellishment Add-On Kit has so many great little bits and pieces.  The “{Oct. 31}” gives this little cluster of embellishments the dimension it needs.

Thanks so much for visiting today.  I hope you feeling inspired to create a layout or two with your October Hip Kit.  Make sure to share your projects with us by posting them on our Facebook Page.  Be sure to come back again tomorrow to see our next project created with our fabulous October Hip Kit.  xo Kristin

September 2012 Hip Kit… More great projects by Kristin Kingrey…

31. October 2012 14:31 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Everyone!

It is Kristin again today and I have a few more cards and layouts to share with you that I made with our September 2012 Hip Kit.  :D

autumn beauty

Every now and then, I get a photo that I just love and want to scrap it in a larger size – which can be really challenging.  After playing with the patterned papers and stickers for awhile everything came together.  I decided to  use patterned paper and cardstock that brought out the colors in my photo.  I combined my embellishments in groups of three, and placed each cluster in a triangle – which directs the eye across the page.

the surf, the sand__Even though our September kit has a lot of rich fall colors – there are a lot of subtle color combinations as well.  Combining the greens, greys and blues with a hint of orange gives a totally different feel.  I love the way these colors worked with these beach photos that I have been holding onto.  :D  the surf, the sand___1I cut the hexagon Studio Calico wood veneer borders and cut three little pieces from it and backed them with orange patterned paper.  These little pieces add nice dimension to my page and give a little POP of color.

pumpkin patch cuties

Fall is my absolute favorite season of the year!  This layout highlights a few photos from our excursion to the pumpkin patch.  When I saw the Simple Stories Harvest Lane picket fence sticker (from our
Embellishment Add-On Kit) – I knew it would be the perfect accent for this layout.

In addition to my layouts – I also created some cute cards with our September kit.  There were so many little pieces on the Harvest Lane sticker sheet (from our Embellishment Add-On Kit) that were awesome for making cards.

September 2012 Hip Kit… A back to school layout by Kristin Kingrey…

31. October 2012 13:19 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Friends!

It is Kristin here with you today.  :D  A couple of days ago Melanie Jarocki posted a school themed layout that she made with our September Hip Kit.  I decided to use her page as my inspiration for a two-page layout showcasing this year’s back to school photos.

By the time I got to work on this layout, I only had bits and pieces leftover from my September kit.  I had used the rest of it on my other DT projects.  So, I decided to take what I had leftover from my kit, (including the wood veneer “number” border from our September Embellishment Add-On Kit and some other miscellaneous things from my “stash” to create this two page layout.

PreK

I know I have said this many times, but I have to say it again… Kimberly does such a great job choosing products for each month’s Hip Kit.  I love the fact that goodies from our past kits coordinate so easily with our new ones.  Since Sami's skirt has polka dots, I wanted to extend that pattern across both pages.  I did this using some polka dot washi tape from an earlier kit.  The circles with the red chevrons were from last year’s November Hip Kit.  These circles match the miscellaneous red and white chevron washi tape that I had on hand.

Thanks for visiting today!  I hope my layout has inspired you to do some scrap-lifting of your own.  Make sure to visit us again tomorrow – because we will have some more great projects created with our September Hip Kit to share with you.  :D  xo – Kristin

August 2012 Hip Kit… 5 awesome cards by Kristin Kingrey…

17. October 2012 04:38 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Everyone!

It is Kristin here with you today to share a few cards that I made with our August 2012 Hip Kit. Do you ever consider where you find your inspiration for your projects? Well, last week I was at Walmart in their little scrapbooking aisle, and they had some dollar bins with these cute little tag cards… and I thought… “I could could easily make something like this!”  So, I went home and got to work. The first thing I did was cut my tag out of blue ledger paper & inked the edges with teal ink. I really love the little polaroids on the Dear Lizzie Dreamy Days paper.  So, I cut a few of them out and layered them onto my tag.  Then I added some of the super cute Pebbles Masking Tape stickers and a couple of the Woodland Park chipboard butterflies. The baker’s twine and ribbon were perfect finishing touches for my cute little card.
hello friend

Here is another card using another one of the Dear Lizzy polaroids.  This card was super easy and all it took was a couple of scraps of patterned paper, a few Masking Tape stickers and some ribbon from our Embellishment Add-On Kit.  The text patterned masking tape sticker in the center wasn’t long enough to stretch it across my card, so I cut it in half to make it look like a much bigger sticker.   I made daisy flower using a couple of flower punches and the I added a gem to the center for a little sparkle. Below is a tutorial showing how to make these daisies.  I think my card turned our super cute!thanks

flower tutorial copy

This next card was kind of an experiment.  I used a similar technique from one of Kimberly’s video tutorials  showing how to create your own pattern paper using scraps.  (see below)  When I cut my strips of patterned paper, I ran them through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder – which gave them a “swiss polkadot” pattern.  I lightly sanded them to make the embossed pattern show up better.  Then I cut the strips apart and pieced them back together to create a “quilted look”.   To finish my card I added a masking tape sticker for the sentiment and tied some baker’s twine around it.thank you

This card was really simple. I started out with two patterned papers, a border sticker from the Echo Park sticker sheet, a masking tape sticker, and a Woodland Park chipboard flower sticker.  To finish things off, I added a wood veneer butterfly and tied it with a bit of baker’s twine from a previous Hip Kit.  Viola!!!  You have an awesome card!smile

For my last card,  I used the circle sticker from the October Afternoon Word Stickers.  To make it stand out a bit more I cut a 3 “ circle using a circle punch and a scalloped circle using a Spellbinder die.  Then I layered all the circles together.  I used a scalloped decorative border punch to make my border & added a little ribbon to it.  This punch gave a repetition of that scalloped edge from the circle die cut.  To give a bit of dimension I added the Woodland Park chipboard flowers and glittered foam Thickers from our Embellishment Add-On Kit.  The other portion of my sentiment was created using the Echo Park alphabet stickers from our main kit.  A lot of different layers – but still a super easy card.happy birthday

I hope you found some inspiration to do something crafty today.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  We would love to see the cards that you create with your Hip Kits… so make sure to post your projects on our Facebook Page!  Don’t forget to come back tomorrow to see another great project created with our September Hip Kit.  :D  -Kristin-

September 2012 Hip Kit… A fun fall layout by Kristin Kingrey…

14. October 2012 06:46 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Everyone!

It is Kristin here with you today!  I have a layout to share with you that I made using our awesome September 2012 Hip Kit.  This kit is full of great fall colors that are perfect for your fall photos & other projects.  For our family, it is a tradition to go to the pumpkin patch every year.  This year we went to a different one and they had a fun hay ride pulled with an antique  John Deer tractor.  My grandpa was a wheat farmer in Kansas, so I have a special fondness for old John Deeres.   So, I  just had to snap a picture of my kids standing by the tractor.  I love the way that my photo coordinated so perfectly with all of the goodies in our this kit.
Fall FunTo start with, I inked the edges of all of the papers with brown ink to give them a little extra contrast against the Walnut Grove wood grained background paper.  I matted all of the Harvest Lane stickers from our Embellishment Add-On Kit onto kraft cardstock and then inked the edges of these as well.  Then, I used pop dots to give a little dimension to the leaves & tree.  The little bird has two pop dots behind him so the he looks like he is resting on top of the tree.Fall Fun__1If you look really closely behind the tree, you will notice that I used the packaging from the Amy Tangerine Stamp Set that was also included in our Embellishment Add-On Kit this month.  I loved that the grid was orange and it matched perfectly with everything else on my layout.  Take some time and check out some of the product packaging in your kits  – you might just find something inspiring & useful there.  If you create a project using packaging…  post a photo of it on our Facebook page.  We always love to see the projects that you share!!!

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you have found some inspiration to use some of your fall pictures with our wonderful September Hip Kit.  Happy Scrapping!
