| Hi Everyone! Today I have a layout that I created using a Christmas photo along with our fabulous January Hip Kit. I know that many of you might not think that the products in our January kit would be a good fit for Christmas photos… but it is!!! It is not so much about patterns and icons – as it is about colors and a feel. |
| I used a ruler and my craft knife to cut the aqua chevrons out of the Crate Paper Fourteen Sparks paper. Then I machine stitched them to my background paper. I cut them down a bit… so that they didn’t take over my page. I really like the subtle texture they give to the foundation of my layout.
The gold polka dot vellum from our January Embellishment Add-On Kit is one of my favorite products from this month’s collection. I love the way it looks when you layer if over other papers, and I love the shine that the metallic polka dots have without having a sparkle to them. The gold worked well with my Christmas photo – because it gave my page a festive feel.
The aqua & white washi tape at the very top and bottom of my layout was from my stash. I needed something with a strong repetitive pattern to give weight to the top of my page. Having a handful of different colors and patterns of washi tape in your stash – comes in really handy. I hope my page has inspired you to try to scrap a holiday themed photo using “non-holiday” related products in one of your Hip Kits. If you do… you can share your layout with us on by posting in on our Facebook page. We would love to see what you create!!! We will have more awesome projects created with our January Hip Kit to share with you this weekend… so make sure to check back. Have a scrappy day! xo – Kimberly - |
| Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent yesterday scrapbooking… which was a nice treat for me. Today, I have a fun layout to share with you that I created with our fabulous January 2013 Hip Kit. I had some photos of my two youngest daughters and Mackenzie’s best friend, Megan at a Sounder’s soccer game. I think this layout is a perfect example that you don’t need soccer themed products to work with soccer photos to make an amazing page. Check it out… (the photos of my layout were taken with my phone… so they aren’t quite as clear as they would be had I have taken them with my SLR – but this was a lot quicker) haha… |
| Adding vellum to your projects is a really popular trend right now. I love the Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic gold polka dot vellum that was included in our January Embellishment Add-On Kit. It adds a little pattern, and some shine and also gives a more subdued foundation for my photos. It was super fun to work with. Machine stitching is always a great way to add detail to your projects. I hand cut a few hearts from the Fourteen – Be Mine paper. Then I layered two of them and machine stitched down the middle. I adhered the bottom heart to the paper and folded the top heart up a bit. This is an inexpensive way to create a dimensional embellishment that will give texture to your layout. I scraped the edge of the striped border with the blade of my scissors to give it a rough edge. Then I layered it over a strip of aqua paper and machine stitched to my layout. Then I lifted the edges up a bit to give some extra dimension and weight to the left side of my page.
I like the brightness that a white cardstock background gives my layouts. However, sometimes it is a bit to stark… so this time I lightly misted the upper right and lower left corners with Dewy Mister Huey Mist. Then I create some splatters to give some more distinct drops. All in all I was really happy with the way it all came together. Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope my page has inspired you to create a page or two of your own with one of your Hip Kits. Tomorrow I will have another project to share with you… so make sure to check back. Have a scrappy day!!! xo – Kimberly - |
| Its Thursday, and I have some amazing projects to share with you that were created by Bethany Crowell using our awesome December 2012 Hip Kit. This kit has a ton of versatility – which makes it super easy to find papers and embellishments to fit any project. |
So, the Pebbles Seen & Noted Phrase Cards from our December Embellishment Add-On Kit have been a bit hit. All of our DT members have had fun incorporating them into their layouts, cards other projects.
Bethany cut the “What I like most about my life is who I share it with “ Phrase Card into strips. The she used these strips along with the Ready Set Go Thickers from our main kit to create this great title for her layout.
Some machine stitching is always a welcome addition to any project. Also, I really like how Bethany used several different brightly colors mists to create splatters on the white cardstock background.
The Studio Calico Opaque Gems (from our Embellishment Add-On Kit) are perfect for adding shine without sparkle, and they are a great choice when a button, or brad would be too large.
Bethany created a subtle chevron pattern on the cardstock background for this next layout. She used some Mister Huey Mist along with a Studio Calico Chevron Mask from our June 2012 Embellishment Add-On Kit. I love it when items from a previous kit can be used over and over again.
The glittered Thickers from our December Embellishment Add-On Kit are the perfect size for creating a title that really stands out.
Our December main kit included a sheet of October Afternoon Mini Market Alphabet Stickers. These great little alphabet work well to add a caption to a layout, or to create a sentiment for a card. The fact that there are so many alphabet stickers on that one sheet is also a big plus!
How cute is this embellished journal!?! Can you believe that this was made using an inexpensive composition book that was decorated with a variety of goodies from our December Hip Kit? This would be an awesome gift for someone special!!!
(note: the washi tape and black Smash Tape were products from Bethany’s stash. Washi tape is such the rage right now – so, it is a great product to stock up on and keep on hand. Check your previous Hip Kits, because we have included it in a few kits from 2012.
I hope Bethany’s projects have left you feeling scrappy. Thanks so much for stopping by today. Tomorrow we will have a fabulous “Mix It Up” layout to share with you. This is a page that was created with bits and pieces of several past Hip Kits. It will definitely inspire you to pull out your leftovers from some of your past kits and create something wonderful. Also, our February Hip Kit will debut this Saturday. So make sure to come back both tomorrow and Saturday. Have a great Thursday!!! xo – Kimberly - |
| Hi Everyone! Tonight I have a couple fabulous projects to share with you that Cindy Stevens created with our super fun December 2012 Hip Kit. Cindy always combines so many different patterned papers and other elements on her projects. Her layouts and cards are always full of texture and dimension – which makes them so much fun to look at. :D I find that it is difficult to do layouts about myself… and I don’t tend to think about taking photos of things that I love… I always think that I have to be in the photos. This is difficult because I always seem to be behind the lens. Cindy’s photo of her boots – has inspired me to create a layout about myself – using a photo of “something” that means something to me. I challenge you to try the same thing… and share your layout(s) with us on our Facebook Page this coming week. Everyone that shares a layout will be entered into a drawing to win a FREE GOODIE BAG!!! Our winner will be announced on Monday, February 4th at noon PST. You can’t win if you don’t play – so get scrapping!!! The Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go Die Cuts are one of my favorite products from our December Kit. There are so many wonderful little bits and pieces in that one little package. Cindy used the “awesome” label, the multi colored arrow, and the heart from that pack to embellish this layout. The “Enjoy the journey” card, and the floral paper were from the Seen & Noted Phrase cards included in our Embellishment Add-On Kit this month. Adding the title along the border on the right side of the page – really balances her page and the buttons are a nice finishing touch. The pennants give a nice “POP” of color and a bit of dimension to her layout. Cindy cut the pennants with a punch, however they could easily be hand cut and given a scallop edge using decorative scissors. I really like the way she added the veneer word to complete this phrase. This darling tag came together using the little house die cut also from the Ready Set Go Die Cut pack, a sentiment created with the chipboard Thickers and a couple of dimensional stickers from our Embellishment Add-On Kit. Imagine this cute tag tied around a bottle of wine or some homemade baked goods… together they would make for a perfect housewarming gift. I hope Cindy’s great projects have inspired you to create something wonderful with your December Hip Kit. :D We will have another collection of amazing projects to share with you tomorrow – so make sure to come check them out. See you soon!!! xo – Kimberly - |
| Hi Everyone! Tonight, I want to share a couple of great projects by Bethany Crowell that she created with the products included in our amazing December 2012 Hip Kit. I love that she uses instagram photos on her layouts. Camera phones today have pretty decent cameras on them, and this has made taking spontaneous photos of life’s little moments so simple, and I love seeing these moments featured on scrapbook pages. How do you use a busy patterned paper on a layout? I know that our December kit included several bold somewhat busy papers – but there are so many different ways to use them without having them overwhelm your project. Bethany cut narrow strips of the “arrow polka dot” paper and combined it with other patterns on this page. Using several different papers makes her layout interesting, and the layering give a lot of texture. The Pebbles Seen & Noted Phrase Cards (from our Embellishment Add-On Kit) makes adding a title to your page quick and easy. The October Mini Market Alphabet Stickers are perfect for adding captions to layouts and sentiments to cards. The repetition of another red element on her page is really pleasing to the eye. I think Bethany’s use of the October Afternoon Little Flyers is really clever. Rather than use them as flags with the little toothpicks, she looped them around the baker’s twine to create a banner. Also, the wood veneers are really quite soft – and they can be cut in half with your scissors or a craft knife. I love how Bethany cut the “happy” veneer in half so that it would fit onto the orange banner flag. Hope you are feeling inspired to get crafty! Bethany’s projects always make me want to get busy. :D Thanks so much for visiting today. Tomorrow I will have a few more projects created with our December Hip Kit to share with you – so make sure to stop by to check them out. xo – Kimberly |
