| Hi Friends! It is Kristin here with you today. :D A couple of days ago Melanie Jarocki posted a school themed layout that she made with our September Hip Kit. I decided to use her page as my inspiration for a two-page layout showcasing this year’s back to school photos. By the time I got to work on this layout, I only had bits and pieces leftover from my September kit. I had used the rest of it on my other DT projects. So, I decided to take what I had leftover from my kit, (including the wood veneer “number” border from our September Embellishment Add-On Kit and some other miscellaneous things from my “stash” to create this two page layout.
I know I have said this many times, but I have to say it again… Kimberly does such a great job choosing products for each month’s Hip Kit. I love the fact that goodies from our past kits coordinate so easily with our new ones. Since Sami's skirt has polka dots, I wanted to extend that pattern across both pages. I did this using some polka dot washi tape from an earlier kit. The circles with the red chevrons were from last year’s November Hip Kit. These circles match the miscellaneous red and white chevron washi tape that I had on hand.
Thanks for visiting today! I hope my layout has inspired you to do some scrap-lifting of your own. Make sure to visit us again tomorrow – because we will have some more great projects created with our September Hip Kit to share with you. :D xo – Kristin |
| Hi Everyone! It is Melanie here with you today and I have a fun layout to share you that I made with our September 2012 Hip Kit. The mix of papers and embellishments this kit are awesome for your fall and school projects. These photos of my little guy on his first day of preschool matched the products in our September kit perfectly. I layered strips of paper along with a border sticker and a journaling card along the left hand side of my page. Then, for a fun affect, I cut apart the wood veneer banners from our Embellishment Add-On Kit and punched holes in them. Then I strung them together using baker's twine. Adding in the October Afternoon diecut, button, and star embellishments gives the page nice little details. I used a manila tag for my journaling and I tucked it into a library card envelope from our Embellishment Add-On Kit. I also used the pencil stamp from the Amy Tangerine stamp set to reinforced the school theme. I hope my layout has inspired you to work with your back to school photos from this year or years past. :D We would love to see your “back to school” layouts – so make sure to share them with us by posting them on our Facebook page. Thanks for visiting today. Make sure to come back tomorrow to see our next great project created with our September Hip Kit. xo – Melanie - |
| Hi Everyone! It is Kimberly here with you today, and I have a sweet layout to share with you today that I made using our August 2012 Hip Kit. :D I loved working with this kit. Everything went together so easily, and I love the way my page turned out. |
The photo I used was of my daughter and her best friend. The colors in the photo were soft – so I didn’t want to overwhelm the picture with a lot of bold bright colors and patterns. I used white cardstock for the background, but I found that a bit harsh. So, I used some Mister Huey’s Water Cooler Mist to give a blue tint to the white cardstock. I sprayed in the upper left hand and lower right hand corners so that they eye would move easily from the top of the page to the bottom. There is a lot of grey in my photo – so I felt that I needed some soft black accents to ground my page. (the banner at the top, the black alphas in the title and the black and white borders toward the bottom). This kind of explains the method I used to design my basic layout. Next, was the fun part… embellishments! I hand cut the banner at the top of the page out of the Dear Lizzy Dreamy Days paper. I inked around the edges of each piece and stitched them to my layout. I didn’t adhere the entire banner because I wanted the edges to flip up for a little extra texture. I layered several different patterned papers to create the the border. This gave my page a horizontal line that helped anchor the main parts of my layout to the rest of the page. It helped pull the eye across and downward just like reading a book. I also wanted to give some weight to the lower right corner of my page with a cluster of embellishments. I used a combination of stickers, alphabet & veneer butterflies from our main kit along with chipboard elements & ribbon from our August Embellishment Add-On Kit. This combination has tons of dimension and texture, and it all flows together because each item is connected to another and none of them are floating. I love the woodgrain Thickers! The whimsical scripted font was perfect for my layout. They gave texture, dimension and detail to the 2nd part of my title. Combined with the black alphabet stickers from Echo Park – the title is really eye catching. I stamped the wood veneer butterfly using a texture stamp that was included in our March 2012 Embellishment Add-On Kit. This gave it a nice little detail. :D Finally, I hand cut a few clouds from the Echo Park Everyday Eclectic paper. I inked around the edges of each piece with brown ink, and machine stitched along the bottom of them for more detail. Since things look better in 3’s, I added 3 clusters of clouds throughout the top of my page. I hope my layout and design process has inspired you to do something creative today. Thanks so much for visiting. I would love to hear what you think, so make sure to leave a comment below. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow to see our next awesome project! xo Kimberly

| Hi Everyone! It is Kristin here with you today! I have a layout to share with you that I made using our awesome September 2012 Hip Kit. This kit is full of great fall colors that are perfect for your fall photos & other projects. For our family, it is a tradition to go to the pumpkin patch every year. This year we went to a different one and they had a fun hay ride pulled with an antique John Deer tractor. My grandpa was a wheat farmer in Kansas, so I have a special fondness for old John Deeres. So, I just had to snap a picture of my kids standing by the tractor. I love the way that my photo coordinated so perfectly with all of the goodies in our this kit. To start with, I inked the edges of all of the papers with brown ink to give them a little extra contrast against the Walnut Grove wood grained background paper. I matted all of the Harvest Lane stickers from our Embellishment Add-On Kit onto kraft cardstock and then inked the edges of these as well. Then, I used pop dots to give a little dimension to the leaves & tree. The little bird has two pop dots behind him so the he looks like he is resting on top of the tree. If you look really closely behind the tree, you will notice that I used the packaging from the Amy Tangerine Stamp Set that was also included in our Embellishment Add-On Kit this month. I loved that the grid was orange and it matched perfectly with everything else on my layout. Take some time and check out some of the product packaging in your kits – you might just find something inspiring & useful there. If you create a project using packaging… post a photo of it on our Facebook page. We always love to see the projects that you share!!! Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you have found some inspiration to use some of your fall pictures with our wonderful September Hip Kit. Happy Scrapping! xo – Kristin |
