| Hi Everyone! It is Kimberly here with you today, and I want to share a few photos from my December Daily 2012 Album that I am working on. It is December 4th… and so far so good. I have taken photos every day and am keeping a journal and have made the 1st few pages. I challenge you to give this a try. All you need is a notebook to keep thoughts and details from each day, and a large envelope to keep memorabilia in (ticket stubs, airplane boarding passes, menus, receipts, lists, letters, etc…) I am using an app on my phone that is similar to Instagram, to take photos each day. I will print most of my photos in 3.5”x3.5” which is a great size for mini albums. Since almost everyone has a phone with a decent camera – it makes this project so much more do-able… because our phones are almost always in reaching distance. If you have time… this is a super fun project to work on throughout the month. If time is sparse right now, just do keep your journal and gather memorabilia during the month and then you can put your book together after the new year. As far as products… You can gather any holiday products you have in your stash or your November Hip Kit has all kinds of wonderful goodies that are perfect for this project… and they can be combined with other products that have similar colors from other kits. My book is being made from our December Daily Album Kit from last year in combination with our November Hip Kit from this year. Most of what is done so far – has been created using our December Daily Kit from last year… but I will definitely be using our November Kit in the very near future. So, here is my book so far… (I took these photos with my Instagram App on my phone)
Album Cover (I am using an American Crafts 8x8 Mod Album that had a raw chipboard cover)
December 1st (left) – This page is mostly done… I still need to print out my photo to finish this page.
December 1st (right) – I still need to add my photos and embellishments to finish this page.
December 2nd (left) – I am need to add something to the woodgrain strip along the right side of this page… probably baker’s twine and a couple of buttons… or perhaps a photo-booth style film strip.
December 2nd (right) – I still need to print and add the photos to this page. The album that I am using only had 8x8 page protectors… and I wanted some that had pockets for various sized photos… So, I made my own. I used the gridlines on my craft mat and a sharpie to draw guidelines on the page protectors so that I could machine stitch pockets. I used my craft mat to cut slits in the pockets that were completely enclosed – I was really careful to only cut through the top layer. It was a “make it work” moment. This is what they look like…
This is a really great project to document your family holiday traditions – as well as to capture little everyday moments that might have otherwise been missed during this busy time of the year. I hope you will consider giving it a try. Just grab a notebook and an envelope and keep some kind of camera close by – and you are ready to go. You can gather the pretty stuff later. :D I will continue to share my album and pages as I complete them. Happy Holidays!!! xo Kimberly

| Bethany is also creating a December Daily Album using the fabulous products included in our 2011 December Daily Kit. Bethany used a snowflake stencil along with the Studio Calico Mister Huey White Mist to create the pattern on her cover. After the mist dried, she spot glittered to give her cover a little sparkle. She also added a little bit of tinsel and a jingle bell from from her stash to finish it off. Looks just like Christmas!!! We still have a few December Daily Album Kits available for purchase. | I created 3-D effect by making a shaker frame. This is how I did it.. -
Cut 2 pieces of chipboard to 5"x6" -
Using a ruler and a pencil, create a frame with a 1" border on all sides. (both pieces) -
Use your ruler and craft knife to cut out the center of your frame. (both pieces) -
Cut 1 piece of transparency to 4.5"x5.5" -
Using double sided tape, adhere the transparency to the bottom of one of the frames. -
Using double sided tape - layer the 2nd chipboard frame over the transparancy - making sure to create a solid seal. -
I added a little bit of coarse glitter into the frame. -
Cut 1 piece of patterned paper to 4.75"5.75" -
Position alphabet stickers to that they will appear centered in the frame. -
I added some machine stitching to my title to hold it in place and to give it a little extra detail. -
Add adhesive around the perimeter of this paper and carefully layer it onto the frame so that your caption is centered in the frame. Make sure to seal it well so that the glitter doesn't leak out. -
Cut a contrasting piece of patterned paper to 5"x6". -
Using your ruler and pencil, measure and trace lines to create a 1" border all the way around. -
Use your craft knife and ruler to cut the center of the frame out. -
Use your paper trimmer and cut .25” off all 4 outside edges of your paper frame – this will give you a .25” border around the edge of your shaker frame for contrast. (This step is completely optional.) -
Adhere pattered paper frame over the chipboard frame - making sure to line up the inside edges of both frames. -
Use a page protector from your album as a template for punching the holes into your chipboard frame. -
I layered another piece of patterned paper on the back of my frame to cover the the machine stitching lines from the title. (I hope this makes sense. if any of it is confusing - please email me with any questions you have. kimberly@hip2bsquarescrapbooking.com ) |

I wanted to make my page protector a little more interesting, so I cut a piece of patterned paper to 2"x8.5" and folded it in half. I covered the binding piece of the page protector with the patterned paper and machine stitched to secure it. I also added machine stitching around the page protector for a decorative touch. I used another page protector as a template to mark where the holes need to be punched in the binding of the embellished page protector.
The dark green circles were punched out of the packaging materials from the Elle's Studio products. I used Estate Green Mister Huey Mist to color the natural chipboard Thickers. I also added a little Glossy Accents to the "JOY" to make it shiny.
