June 2012 Hip Kit… 1 Sketch–2 Ways by Lisa Wilkinson…

Hi Everyone!

It is Lisa here with you today.  I have had so much fun playing with our June Hip Kit using this sketch by Jillibean-Soup as the inspiration for one of my layouts!   Rather than creating just one page, I wanted to use the sketch TWO different ways...

Capture
For the first take, I simply dry brushed white craft paint onto a solid piece of kraft cardstock and then I used  several of the cut apart tags to create the base of my page.  Then I  embellished around the tags and added my pictures....

I also added some of the washi tape from a previous kit.  I adore how easy our Hip Kits mix and match from month to month!  It makes it a breeze to really use every little bit and piece of each amazing kit.:D

For the second take on this sketch I decided to create a Project Life layout for a week when I was healing from surgery and did not have many pictures or stories to share....  I really love the way it turned out!

Our Hip Kits are so full of pretty little things that are perfect for using on your “Project Life” layouts.  I love using these kits to create for these pages because they come together so quickly and easily.  With all of the fun products that are included in each kit,  I am able to add lots layering and embellishing to each these layouts.

Regardless of whether you are a traditional scrapbooker, a Project Life scrapbooker or both – our Hip Kits are a perfect fit for any of these projects.  I hope I have inspired you to pull your June Hip Kit out and get to work.  If you aren’t already a member – you should definitely consider signing up for the Hip Kit Club and you will receive one of these fabulous kits delivered right to your door each and every month. :)

June 2012 Hip Kit… 3 Fun Cards by Melanie Jarocki…

27. July 2012 09:20 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Everyone!

Melanie here today :)  I have a few projects to share with you today that I created with our June Hip Kit.  For the first one… all of the Hip 2b Square Design Team members  received three sketches by Simelle Laine to use as our inspiration for one of the cards that we create.

American Crafts Card Sketch Shimelle Laine

I chose to use the third sketch as my inspiration for this card…

I backed the newspaper print paper with the yellow grid paper. At the bottom of the newspaper print is a thin strip of blue crosshatch paper. I added the tag, cut from the Crate Paper sheet, for an extra pop on the card. To add a little more definition to the tag, I zigzag stitched along the edge. The Echo Park B is for Boy sticker inspired the theme of my card and the mini green letters added the corresponding sentiment. To finish off the card, I added the Echo Park label sticker at the top, the My Minds Eye twine, and the inside letter dots to the corners of the boy sticker.

I will tell you that I absolutely love all of the blue and red in this kit.  These colors along with the Echo Park sticker sentiment inspired my second card.

To add some interesting detail, I fussy cut five different flowers from the Basic Grey pattern paper. Then I layered them, along with the silver stick pins.

Kimberly puts together such great kits. The blue, red, yellow, and kraft blend together so well on this card. At first I hadn't put the MME kraft border with the red diagonal stripes on the card. But I felt the card needed just a touch of more definition and by adding that border it finished it off nicely.

The stickers from the Echo Park This & That collection that are included in our June Hip Kit have made their way onto every project I've made with this kit. It is such a fun and versatile sheet of stickers.

I love the sticker of the boy with the animals and thought the "So Happy When We're Together" sentiment matched it perfectly.

Melanie-Card-Happy

Layering it with some of the pattern papers and the red tickets that were included in our June Embellishment Add-On Kit – made this fun card come together.  I love banners--as you well know--so the banner stickers from the sheet were the first thing I reached for to finish off the card. I backed each pennant sticker with cardstock and "hung" it with the MME twine. When I finished this card, I loved how it seemed neutral with the white background and brown chevron print, yet the pops of color in the layers gives it a cheerful, happy feel.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope I have inspired you to create a few cards of your own using your June Hip Kit.  Make sure to visit us again tomorrow to see the next great project we have to share with you.

June 2012 Hip Kit… A great sketch inspired layout by Melanie Jarocki…

Hello! Melanie here sharing the first layout that I made with our June Hip Kit!  This month's sketch (from Jillibean Soup) is full of fun!Capture

For my layout I changed things up a bit, inspired by the grid-look of the sketch, and went with what worked best with my photos.

Melanie-LO-Gifts

I used one of the awesome lined bags in the kit for my journaling area. The banner pennants are cut out from the Echo Park paper. By outlining the chipboard letters in "GIFTS" it helps the title stand out a bit more.

It is always fun to see the different interpretations of the sketch that Kimberly provides for us each month.  Be sure to link yours up in the comments section or post your layout inspired by this sketch on our FACEBOOK page.  :)  We love to see what you do!!!

June 2012 Hip Kit… A great sketch inspired card by Bethany Crowell…

Hi all!
It is Bethany…  Kimberly asked each of the design team members to create a card using our
June Hip Kit and one of these sketches by Shimelle Laine for American Crafts.  I want to share this fun card that I made using the 1st sketch and flipped it upside down...

I created this card using a combination of products from the fantastic main kit and the fun embellishment add-on kit. I'm totally in love with the canvas Studio Calico cameras and the awesome patterned paper from Studio Calico's Class Calico that has the mini polaroid frames on it! For this card I cut one of the little frames out to add to the layering...

The sentiment was created with the SMASH label maker from my own tool kit - but everything else can be found in the June Main Hip Kit and Embellishment Add On Kit! :)

March 2012 Hip Kit… Cards 3 & 4 by Cindy Stevens…

22. April 2012 06:47 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Everyone!  It's Cindy here today and I  want to share a couple of cards that I created using our awesome March Hip Kit

The first card is one that  I made using this card sketch from Mojo Monday as my inspiration.  I couldn't resist that sweet chick sticker from the Jillibean Soup sheet in the March Kit and took my color scheme from there. I fell in love with the text type paper and paired it with that sweet yellow polka dot paper.

The second card that I want to share with you is a sweet layered “Thanks”  card.  I really let the contrasting papers in the March kit do a lot of the work for me with this one and added some neutrals to balance the bold pattern on the green paper.  I really like the fun Studio Calico polka dot tissue trim that was included in the March Embellishment Add-On Kit.  It was the perfect thing to make the ruffle on my card.

I finished my card off using the wonderful baker’s twine to make a bow.

March 2012 Hip Kit… Cards 1-2 by Kristin Kingrey…

11. April 2012 12:22 by Kimberly   //  Tags: , , , ,   //   Comments

Hi Everyone!  Kristin here today, and I want to share a couple of cards that I made using our March Hip Kit.  I think this kit is perfect for creating those spring projects.

Here is a really cute simple Easter card that I made.   The chick on the flag was hand-cut from a bigger sticker.  That little flag was the perfect finishing tough for my card.  It just kind of kicked it up a notch.

My second card was inspired by this sketch by Authentique paper.  I think it turned out really nice.  I love mixing yellow and greens together and this month’s Hip Kit was perfect for that.  I used the Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch that was included in our March Embellishment Add-On along with a couple scraps of photo paper to create my butterflies.  I think that the white butterflies really give an extra “pop” to my card.

Tutorial Tuesday… Using Sketches by Melanie Jarocki

Hello :) Today is my turn for Tuesday Tutorial. I thought I would put a plug in for our sketch challenges going on this month. We have a LAYOUT sketch challenge, and a CARD sketch challenge. Everyone can participate, not just Hip Kit club members. You can use ANY products you want to. Just follow the sketch and email your project to Kimberly. The winner receives a Hip 2-b Square Kit! That is SO awesome!
Sketches are a great source of inspiration in our projects. We can use them exactly as they are or as a jumping off point to go wherever we want to go with our project. Here are four different ways that I have used sketches with the Hip kits.

1. Use the sketch as is. This month's card sketch looks like this:

Card Sketch by Authentique Paper

The card I made with stayed very close to the sketch:
Melanie-Card-sKETCH

2. Alter the sketch a bit. Last month, our layout sketch was:
Jillibean Soup Sketch

I used the general design of the layout, but tilted the background a little and added a flow of butterflies for movement on the page.

Melanie Sketch Maddy

3. Change the orientation of the sketch. Our card sketch for last month was a horizontal card:

Mojo Monday Sketch 198

But I switched it to a vertical orientation

4. Use a layout sketch for a card, or visa versa. This month's layout sketch . .
Creative Scrapper Sketch 179

can also be used for a card:

Lots of fun ways to use sketches. We'd love to see what you do with the challenges this month! Thanks for visiting today. Let me know if you have any questions about using sketches :)
