A great little accordion book.

by Kimberly 20. May 2009 11:07

This little accordion book is made out of a regular old file folder.

  • Take a letter size file folder and cut it in half, and then cut one half down to 8.5" x 11".
  • Score the folder horizontally 2" from the bottom.  Fold the bottom of the folder to form the pocket.
  • Then score the folder vertically in quarters (2.75").  Then you can accordion fold your book.   +
  • Tape three 2" strips of ribbon to the front cover of the book, and then  tape the other ends of the ribbon strips to the back side of the book to create the binding.
  • Cover the front and the back of the book with patterned paper.  Cover the bottom portion of the pockets with patterned paper as well.
  • Secure the pockets by setting an eyelet in the front and back cover.
  • Thread a 12 inch piece if ribbon through the eyelets so that you can tie your little book shut.
  • Take the unused half of the folder and make 2.5" x 4" tags.  Cover one side with a contrasting patterned paper.
  • Set eyelets through the top of each tag.  Tie decorative ribbon through each tag to add texture.
  • Stamp a journaling block on the blank side of each tag.
  • Embellish your tags and your book with flowers, buttons, chipboard or whatever strikes your fancy.
  • (note:   the paper I used didn't have any black accents on it - so I used a pen and doodled around the border of the paper and around each flower.  This little trick tied the black and white accents together with the rest of the project)
